Holbrook Health Center, the skilled nursing care component of Piper Shores lifecare retirement community, received a report of Zero Deficiencies for the second year in a row by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services as part of their annual inspection in May. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal rating agency, subsequently confirmed the zero deficiencies rating as part of a follow-up inspection in June.
Such a report is extremely rare, said Michael Bierley, Piper Shores Executive Director. A zero deficiencies report is reserved for only the highest quality nursing home providers in Maine. To receive such a report two years in a row is testimony to the quality of our people, processes and procedures at Holbrook.
In addition to the zero deficiencies rating, Holbrook also maintained its 5-Star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The Five-Star Quality Rating System was created to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily. 5-Stars is the highest rating offered by the agency.
Holbrook continues to build on a tradition of excellence, quality and innovation, said Bierley. Just last year, Holbrook was recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CCAC). CARF-CCAC is the nations only accrediting body for continuing care retirement communities. CARF-CCAC awarded Holbrook exemplary status for its innovative Life Stories, Tree of Life and Intergenerational programs. These resident-centered care programs are the first of their kind in Maine and represent a new standard in retirement and skilled nursing care.
