Piper Shores Backgrounder Information
Piper Shores, located in Scarborough Maine, is the only non-profit lifecare retirement community in Maine. Through local ownership and professional management services, Piper Shores offers residents the true comforts of home – a sense of security and friendship. Located on over 138 acres along 800 feet of Casco Bay, Piper Shores residents enjoy active, independent lifestyles with priority access to on-site assisted living and skilled nursing care, whenever they may need it.
Completed in August 2001, the architectural style of Piper Shores closely resembles that of the summer hotels that once graced the area. The exterior style of the main buildings, including 160 apartments and 40 independent living cottages are influenced by John Calvin Stevens, Maine’s most famous architect. The main building at Piper Shores houses an elegant dining room, cozy café and well stocked library. The great room offers a comfortable place to talk with friends and enjoy incredible ocean views, while the Founder’s Room provides a large meeting space for lectures, presentations and entertainment. A state-of-the-art fitness center, a 55,000-gallon swimming pool, 6-person hot tub, a hair & nail salon and a spa with private massage room was added in 2012.
Piper Shores was founded and is owned by Maine Life Care Retirement Community, Inc., a Maine nonprofit organization, formed by a group of accomplished local individuals to deliver the shared vision of creating an ideal retirement community on the coast of Maine. Piper Shores is self-managed with a Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership Team providing day-to-day management of Piper Shores’ operations.
Piper Shores employs more than 200 dedicated and talented individuals in fields such as gerontology, nursing, culinary arts and hospitality management.
An important part of life at Piper Shores is staying connected. To this end, the Piper Shores resident community is actively involved not only with their friends across the hall but also their neighbors across town. The idea of building community and giving back is an important aspect of life at Piper Shores while community events such as the annual Piper Shores Resident Art Show, the American Red Cross blood drive, and Volunteer Fair attract residents from Scarborough and many neighboring towns.
