Virtual Dementia Tour Enhances Person Centered Care at Holbrook Health Center

July 2nd, 2012

Dementia is a disease that affects more than 5 million people over age 65, and yet, despite its prevalence it remains largely misunderstood. At Holbrook Health Center at Piper Shores, administrators, caregivers and residents are taking strides to better understand the disease, and promote empathy amongst fellow residents and staff.

“We’ve adopted the ‘Virtual Dementia Tour’ program to better fulfill our Person Centered Care Model at Holbrook and Piper Shores,” said Peggy Farrington, Piper Shores Administrator. “By giving our caregivers the opportunity to ‘walk in the shoes’ of a nursing home resident suffering from dementia, we are able to better understand the unique needs of those with dementia, and provide a more compassionate, personalized care experience.”
